His food was locusts and wild honey. At that time Jerusalem, all Judea, and the whole region around the Jordan were going out to him and were being baptized by him in the Jordan River as they acknowledged their sins. When he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them, \u00abYou brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath? Produce good fruit as evidence of your repentance. And do not presume to say to yourselves, &#8216;We have Abraham as our father.&#8217; For I tell you, God can raise up children to Abraham from these stones. Even now the axe lies at the root of the trees. Therefore every tree that does not bear good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire. I am baptizing you with water, for repentance, but the one who is coming after me is mightier than I. I am not worthy to carry his sandals. He will baptize you with the holy Spirit and fire. His winnowing fan is in his hand. Egli infatti \u00e8 colui del quale aveva parlato il profeta Isaia quando disse: \u00abVoce di uno che grida nel deserto: Preparate la via del Signore, raddrizzate i suoi sentieri!\u00bb. E lui, Giovanni, portava un vestito di peli di cammello e una cintura di pelle attorno ai fianchi; il suo cibo erano cavallette e miele selvatico. Allora Gerusalemme, tutta la Giudea e tutta la zona lungo il Giordano accorrevano a lui e si facevano battezzare da lui nel fiume Giordano, confessando i loro peccati. Vedendo molti farisei e sadducei venire al suo battesimo, disse loro: \u00abRazza di vipere! Chi vi ha fatto credere di poter sfuggire all\u2019ira imminente? Fate dunque un frutto degno della conversione, e non crediate di poter dire dentro di voi: \u201cAbbiamo Abramo per padre!\u201d. Perch\u00e9 io vi dico che da queste pietre Dio pu\u00f2 suscitare figli ad Abramo. Gi\u00e0 la scure \u00e8 posta alla radice degli alberi; perci\u00f2 ogni albero che non d\u00e0 buon frutto viene tagliato e gettato nel fuoco. Io vi battezzo nell\u2019acqua per la conversione; ma colui che viene dopo di me \u00e8 pi\u00f9 forte di me e io non sono degno di portargli i sandali; egli vi battezzer\u00e0 in Spirito Santo e fuoco. Tiene in mano la pala e pulir\u00e0 la sua aia e raccoglier\u00e0 il suo frumento nel granaio, ma brucer\u00e0 la paglia con un fuoco inestinguibile\u00bb.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div
